Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Orphaned, endured cruelty: evil aunt, horrible school.
Governess at Thornfield: sweet Adele, mysterious employer.
Nighttime fire, lunatic laughter. Love? Wedding? No: mad wife living.
Fled, inherited fortune. Rochester burned but free. Married him.
(This is the weekend challenge for this week: retell your favorite story in 33 words.)
Thanks for linking up with Trifextra this weekend. This entry kind of makes me wish that you wrote for Cliffs Notes back when I was in high school. Cut to the chase, give me what I need. 🙂 Nice job. Hope to see you back on Monday for the 33rd Challenge Celebration!
Guess this one gets into my list too.
Love the original movie but never read the book. Nice adaptation. I am curious about the “inherited fortune.” Does that happen to her after she leaves? not part of the movie.
It’s often left out of film adaptations…happens during the time after she runs away from Thornfield and before she comes back (nearly a year’s time, I believe, though this is frequently cut out of movie versions). I hope you read the book!!
I know this is a classic, but I’ve never even read a description of it. I’m adding to my reading list now.
It is my all-time favorite! In fact, I’m adapting it as a play for my theater company. Read it now!
I’d like to read it now!
